Work in Progress Isle of Portland 2017

Pete Cobb recently moved from Malvern to Suffolk where he has established his studio, and continues to develop his large scale, site specific, water colour paintings. These are usually in the form of fold-out books, and painted in situ, in response to the time, place, weather, and colour.

He became a member of the Print Workshop at Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury and re-established his printmaking practice. While the workshop has been closed, initially by COVID and then by the development of the house and gallery he has continued to work with lino and woodcut in his own studio. The imagery for this initially came from a combination of travel sketchbooks and the interior surroundings of his home, and has more recently included landscape and celestial references.

Pete studied sculpture and printmaking at Chelsea, Wolverhampton and Jacob Kramer Leeds in the nineteen seventies and has exhibited widely since then.

He worked at the University of East London for many years, teaching and managing Fine Art and Design courses, undertaking roles including Dean of Architecture & Visual Arts, Subject Director Fine Art, and Head of Art and Design.
