Artist’s Statement
My latest works are made in response to recent travels, including visits to Iceland, Italy, Portugal and Vietnam. I prefer to work in situ and to reflect the time, place, weather, and experience of the moment, underpinned by some elements of topography.
I work rapidly in watercolours, and work up either larger works or woodcuts back in the studio. The large watercolours are fluid and sometimes remain purely abstract, whereas of its nature print gives the opportunity for a more focused and graphic image, which is reflected in the woodcuts.
Pete Cobb studied sculpture and printmaking at Chelsea, Wolverhampton and Jacob Kramer Leeds in the nineteen seventies and has exhibited widely since then. He has works in several public collections, including The Arts Council of Great Britain, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, West Midlands Arts, Tower Hamlets, British Telecom.
He worked at the University of East London for many years, teaching and Leading Fine Art and Design courses, undertaking roles including Dean of Architecture & Visual Arts, and Head of Art and Design. He now lives and works in Suffolk.
Pete is a founder member of the recently formed Mid-Suffolk Art Collective, and will shortly be curating the Suffolk Open Studios autumn exhibition to be held at the Guildhall Bury St Edmunds in October 2026
